Course Description
This course presents an in-depth explanation of the CDC’s and OSHA’s guidelines for dental offices. We will review of the CDC guidelines for infection control in the dental healthcare setting, review OSHA’s blood borne pathogen standard’s guidelines, discuss safety data sheets (“SDS”) and Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (“GHS”) hazard statements, and general office safety standards. We will also talk about strategies to improve infection control in the office in a practical manner.

Course Description
This course will help dentists better understand key risks in their practices and how to mitigate them. It will review the most common malpractice claims and State board complaints, explain the professional standard of care, discuss ways to communicate more effectively with patients, and describe requirements and best practices for informed consents and patient charts.

(1) Identify key clinical and business risks in their practices;
(2) Apply risk reduction techniques;
(3) Teach their staffs how to be more risk-aware;

Speaker Biography
Lisa Kane, DMD
Lisa Kane received her DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She practiced general dentistry in the Greater Boston Area for over 20 years. She currently is the owner of Dental Office Compliance of New England, LLC (“DOC4NE”), which assists dental practices in complying with the myriad of regulations required by the state Board, OSHA, and the CDC. DOC4NE can help you with all of your compliance needs, including creating and updating required policies and procedures, training employees, helping with efficiency, chart audits, preparing for site inspections by OSHA or the state Board, and so much more.
Russel Kane, JD
Russell comes to Dental Office Compliance after a 25 year legal and compliance career, most recently at a global asset management firm where he served as a mutual fund chief compliance officer for 10 years and the firm’s General Counsel for five years. He has extensive experience with helping clients understand applicable laws and regulations and drafting required policies and procedures. Russell received his BA from Columbia University and his JD from New York University School of Law.
Alberto Malacarne, DDS
Alberto Malacarne is Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Department of Diagnostic Sciences, Division of Orofacial Pain. He has a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Universita’ degli Studi di Genova (Italy) and a fellowship in Orofacial Pain from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, and he is a diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain.
His clinical activity is completely devoted to the assessment and management of patients with face, head, and neck pain, treating conditions such as temporomandibular disorders, trigeminal neuropathic pain, and primary headache disorders. He is involved daily in the clinical training of residents of the Orofacial Pain certificate program at Tufts University. He is the director of the course “Reviews of Orofacial Pain” for Postgraduate Dental Students. He has been lecturing for multiple didactic courses at Tufts Dental School and other Academic institutions as well as continuing education courses for dentists and medical professionals. His major research and clinical interests are non-odontogenic tooth pain and the relation between headaches and facial pain. He acts as a research mentor for undergraduate dental students interested in Orofacial Pain. His career mission is to reduce the gap between dentistry and medicine through education and interprofessional collaboration.
In his free time, he likes enjoying time with his friends, playing the drums and the piano, and traveling around the world with his wife and daughter to discover new cultures and food.
Massachusetts AGD is designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by the AGD for Fellowship/Mastership and membership maintenance credit.
