Kybella and the Double Chin

Course Description:

This didactic overview explores the applications of Kybella (deoxycholic acid). The first FDA approved drug of its kind with an indication for submental fullness (double chin). Kybella injections are used to contour and improve the appearance of the “double chin” by reducing moderate to severe fat on the upper neck. The presentation includes Kybella safety, side effects, contraindications, patient selection, and treatment considerations.

Course Objectives:

  • Describe the indication for Kybella treatment
  • Discuss potential adverse events and how to recognize and avoid them
  • Describe how deoxycholic acid works

Target Audience:

Clinicians interested in potentially expanding injectable treatment modalities in their office.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Gigi Meinecke has been active in the field of facial injectables since 2004. In 2013 she established FACES Education, providing cosmetic and therapeutic injectable training to medical and dental professionals with a core focus on comprehensive facial anatomy. Her programs regularly integrate cadaver study with live patient injections.

In addition to teaching nationally, Dr. Meinecke is instructor and the Course Director for the Facial Injectables Pre-doctoral program at the Boston University School of Dental Medicine. She also provides litigation support as an expert witness in the injectable domain.

Her recent publications include “Applications for Facial Injectables in Dentistry,” “Lower Face Influence on Total Facial Esthetics,” and “When and How to Say No to Facial Injectable Patients.” She is author of the book, “Start and Grow Your Cosmetic Injectable Practice.”

Dr. Meinecke is a past President of the Maryland Academy of General Dentistry and currently serves on the Maryland State Dental Associations Legislative and Government Affairs Council. On a national level, she is past Chair of the ADA Council on Communications and serves as spokesperson for the AGD. She is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists. Dr. Meinecke maintains a private practice limited to facial injectables in Potomac, Maryland.
