Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) affect approximately 10% of the general population. Obtaining an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan can be perplexing. This course will review the types of TMDs: arthrogenous disorders, myogenous disorders, internal derangements, as well as other uncommon joint conditions. Etiology, pathogenesis, pain mechanisms and dysfunction, examination methods, diagnostic tests, and management strategies will be discussed. Dentists will also learn how to perform the orofacial pain examination, physical medicine techniques, as well as interventional treatment methods. In addition, this course will provide a comprehensive review of non-odontogenic sources of tooth pain. Attendees will learn how to differentiate between odontogenic and non-odontogenic toothaches, the appropriate examination methods, diagnostic tests, and management of non-odontogenic toothaches.
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
Day 1: Temporomandibular joint disorders, Muscle Disorders, Non-Odontogenic Tooth Pains
Day 2: History Taking, Comprehensive Exam, Physical Therapy Exercises for TMDs, Injection Therapy for TMDs (Lecture and Hands-On)

12pm - 1pm: Lunch
1pm - 1:30pm: Demo
1:30pm - 5pm: Hands-on Clinical Training
Dr. Seena Patel is an orofacial pain and oral medicine dentist in Phoenix, AZ. She loves dentistry and began her journey at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. There, she found her passion for public health, research, and oral diseases, and then completed a 2-year residency in orofacial pain and oral medicine. She is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American Board of Oral Medicine. She maintains her practice at Southwest Orofacial Group and serves as the Director of Oral Medicine and is an Associate Professor at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health. She has also volunteered on the National Board of Dental Education Test Construction Committee, serves on the ADA Commission on Continuing Education Provider Recognition and the AzDA Council on Education, and is a peer reviewer for several dental journals. She believes that knowledge should be shared and loves speaking at medical and dental conferences.
