Course Description: This hands-on course is for healthcare professionals to learn about and how to perform Trigger Point Injections (TPI), Botox Injections, and Occipital Nerve Blocks in the jaw and neck muscles to diagnose and treat TMD, non-dental tooth pain, and headaches. Doctors will also review of head and neck anatomy related to the injection as well as show how these injections work.
Course Objectives:
About the Speaker: Dr. Cohen is a board-certified specialist in Orofacial Pain and is founder of Southwest Orofacial Group, an orofacial pain clinic in central Arizona. He is currently Assistant Professor and Director of Orofacial Pain at AT Still University and is adjunct faculty at the UCLA Orofacial Residency Program. He has lectured extensively nationally and internationally, is a section editor for the Journal “Cranio" and is a frequent reviewer for several Journals including: JADA, Headache and Triple O. He is diplomate and past president of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and is a member of many professional organizations including the American Dental Association, American Pain Society, and is a Past President and Fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He is also a Fellow of the American Headache Society. Dr. Cohen is the commissioner for the new specialty Orofacial Pain for CODA. His original training in trigger point injections was from Janet Travel who developed and pioneered the use of trigger point injections and was the was the author of the book “The Trigger Point Manual” He has lectured nationally and internationally on the use of Trigger Point Injections and Nerve Blocks and Botox in diagnosing and treating Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and Orofacial Pain (OFP). He is also a co author on a paper about to be published on the use of Botox in treating TMD.
